Space Junkies review of TOYS FROM BALSA - August 2005

When I received this album I was anticipating a children's album. I was totally unprepared for what I heard when this CD began to play.
The music has a bit of an old school rock and roll flair with a bit of blues piano mixed in. There is a steady rock beat on drums that is very clinical and clean sounding. The vocals are harmonized and bring me back to the 1980s with the effect it creates. The guitar has an unusual tone as if the player preferred clean tones, but then added just a bit of distortion for heaviness. Female vocals add a bit of spice to the songs and add to the storyline of the music.
Something I can admire in this album is the clarity of vocal enunciation. It's very easy to hear and understand the lyrics in the songs.
Overall the music brings to me a bit of nostalgia for a time past. I would recommend this music for the retro lovers out there who are looking to find a modern band that captures that 80's sound.
