Plastic Ashtray webzine review - June 2005

Who is Glyn Bailey?
He is indeed a quirky pop writer, who mixes a mass of influences to bring across his brand of wacky Shiny music.

First track, 'Sorry (She Went Down On Me But I Thought About You', is an instant shot of summer sun pop. Sounding vocally like Mark Knoffler doing Bob Dylan, and musically like the daftness of Mink Lungs mixed with Pavement and Dire Straights . This is Glyn Bailey's unique Blend of humour and well rounded songwriting, and it's refreshing.

'East and West' recalls Julian Cope at his most off kilter. Bailey's voice sounding warm and at times a little like David Bowie which an Unusual treat. Bailey boasts a self Written, Performed and produced album, which is a feat in itself. Mr Cope should get in touch, his last album didnt sound half this good!

Stand out Rocker, 'Don't Just Stand There (Do Something)' is lead by what seems to be Barking Animals as a beat, Bailey sounding Majestic on the chorus, again resembling Bowie at his best.

Bailey is as madcap as Julian Cope (but not as self Indulgent), his voice a range of Different singers exciting from track to track and Musically biting and different. This 14 track album boasts so much in terms of variety. The Ziggy stomp of 'Don't just sit there', the twisted cosmic grunge of 'My Love Is Out In Space', right through to 'The Plastic Bag Song (facts)' Adam Ant solo career grade A pop.

Glyn Bailey has been releasing records for years in other bands like The Urbane Gorillas and Harvey's Wall Of Sound, and running his own label (Inane Records).

So you have only just heard of him now?
It's time to catch up i think.
